2. The short version
This website runs without tracking, without analytics services and without advertising cookies. External services (Calendly, Stripe, PayPal) are only loaded once you actively use them. Consent to load the Calendly calendar is stored locally in your browser (localStorage), not on our servers.
3. Hosting and server log files
This website is operated by STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. A data processing agreement (DPA) pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with the hosting provider.
When you visit the website, the server automatically processes technical access data (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser type, referrer URL). This data is required for the technical operation and security of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and is deleted according to the hosting provider's standard retention periods.
4. Contact form and contact by email/phone
If you use the contact form, we process the data you provide (name, email address, company if given, message) to handle your inquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps prior to entering into a contract) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding). The data is sent to us by email and deleted once it is no longer needed for processing and no statutory retention obligations apply.
5. Book orders (shop)
To process your book order, we process your order data: name, email address, delivery address, chosen edition, payment method and payment status. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract: shipping the book and handling shipping costs).
Order data is stored on the server and sent to us by email. You'll receive an order confirmation by email. Data subject to commercial or tax retention obligations (§ 147 German Fiscal Code, § 257 German Commercial Code) is retained for the statutory periods.
5.1 Payment processing via Stripe
If you pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, you'll be redirected to Stripe's payment page. The provider is Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., 1 Grand Canal Street Lower, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, Ireland. Stripe processes your payment data under its own responsibility; this may involve transferring data to the US (based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework). We do not receive your full payment details from Stripe, only confirmation that payment was made. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Details: stripe.com/en-de/privacy
5.2 Payment processing via PayPal
If you pay via PayPal, you'll be redirected to PayPal. The provider is PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22-24 Boulevard Royal, L-2449 Luxembourg. PayPal processes your payment data under its own responsibility. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Details: paypal.com — privacy policy
6. Scheduling via Calendly
On the contact page, you can book a time via Calendly. The calendar only loads after you've actively agreed to it by clicking (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Only then is a connection established to Calendly's servers and your IP address transmitted; during the booking itself, Calendly processes the data you enter (name, email, requested time).
The provider is Calendly LLC, 1315 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30309, USA. The transfer to the US relies on Calendly's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing this website's local storage in your browser. Details: calendly.com/privacy
7. Local storage (localStorage)
This website does not use cookies. Your browser's local storage is used only to record whether you've consented to loading external content (e.g. Calendly). This entry stays in your browser, is never transmitted to us, and can be deleted at any time via your browser settings.
8. External links
This website links to external services such as LinkedIn, YouTube, ProvenExpert, Amazon and mowebresearch.com. Clicking these links takes you away from our website; the privacy policies of the respective providers apply. Simply visiting our pages does not transmit any data to these providers.
9. SSL/TLS encryption
This website uses SSL/TLS encryption. Data you submit through forms is encrypted in transit.
10. Your rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)

- Withdrawal of consent already given, with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR)
To exercise these rights, simply contact info@herberthoeckel.com.
